New TV season 2012-2013.....
Private Practice, Mob Doctor, The Good Wife, Parenthood, Major Crimes, Revenge just to name a few favs are back and back with vigor.  So far each one has had a great season premiere that keeps us coming back.

The new shows:  Nashville, Mob Doctor, Vegas, Go On, all look intriguing.

I love Mob Doctor!  These TV shows that showcase strong woman as the main character are a great turn from the old school showing men as the main character and a woman just supporting them.
Trouble with the Curve

This baseball movie has more to the story than just a few scouting agents!  There is quite a dynamic to Amy Adams character and her relationships to her bosses, boyfriend and father played by Clint Eastwood.  Sprinkle in a little Justin Timberlake and John Goodman and you have quite the movie.

You have to love the character that Clint Eastwood portrays quite well as a grumpy, lovable and quite comical baseball scout that prefers to work by the "old school" methods.  Computer stats be damned!

The trailer gives away plenty about the romantic spark between Amy & Justin, also lets you know about the troubles Clint has with relationships, but there are a few surprises and the movie is worth seeing!

Savages

What an intense movie about drug dealing, their lifestyle as drug dealers and crooked cops; add a little sex, kidnapping, backstabbing and war veterans...... you've about summed it all up. Oh, not to mention the complex web of turf war that is quite ugly in this industry.
Loved the cast and the acting put forth by everyone.  Kudos to the casting crew. Oliver Stone doesn't disappoint on this one as with most of his movies it had depth of characters and story line which we also have to give credit to the writer Don Winslow.

The movie starts very racy with a sex scene between 2 of the main characters and narration from Blake Lively as her character "O" gives you some background to the story and people involved.  It seems a little hard to believe that a couple of young good looking men could run a "civilized" marijuana  business, but that's what the story is based on.
There is a little background given on everyones past and present which helps you relate to the characters very personally.

I enjoyed the movie very much and would recommend it with the caveat that its racy in some parts and graphic violence in others, but it is about the Mexican cartel and drug dealing....

5 stars for the great acting and writing an in depth story line of each character.

The Vow vs. The Lucky One

I have to give the Oscar to..... The Lucky One.  The Vow lacked the depth that The Lucky One had to the story line.  Lucky One was a little more 3 dimensional with the ex-husband, Grandmother, son, combat scene and much more..... I won't give everything away.  The writer of this original novel Nicholas Sparks has had 5 other best selling books that have all been turned into movies and with good reason.  The stories usually have a happy ending and are centered on romance and a tragedy.....much like The Vow written by Stuart Sender.

I'm so far behind on my movies reviews I'm just going to give you a little blurb about it and recommend or steer you away from each flick.

Acts of Valor
What an intense movie, as you might expect there is non-stop action from 10 minutes in to end of this flick.  It gives you a glimpse into the life of a team of Navy Seals and what happens behind the scenes in the military to pull off the missions they do.

This movie utilized real Navy Seals in place of most of the actors and as this is noticeable they did a great job and it's definitely worth the money!

The Vow
Sweet movie with lots emotion put in by the cutie Channing Tatum, and Rachel McAdams is always a delight to watch.  It doesn't hurt that you see Channing in the nude. The writing for each character was great.  I especially enjoyed the dynamic between Rachel and her parents.  I enjoyed this movie and would recommend it for a chick flick or even better as a date night movie.

War Horse
Very entertaining, great scenery and cinematography.  I can't imagine how they made the war scenes look so real! Very heart warming relationship between the boy, his parents and this horse.  you will fall in love with most characters in this film.

If you haven't seen it it's a must rent.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
Could be called Extremely Sad and Incredibly Deep Thinking.  It is a very well written story quite obviously about a New York family that goes through losing a loved one to the 9-11 attack.  The little boys character so well played by Thomas Horn takes us through a web of exploration that leads to an incredible wrap up.  This is a must see as well.  It was up for several awards including 2 Oscars for a reason.

So many Oscar nominees so little time!

Fortunately, with the Golden Globe awards having come and gone I was able to get a jump on what you can assume might be nominated for the coveted Oscar.
The Descendants
The Artist
My Week with Marilyn
J. Edgar
The Iron Lady
All great movies in their own category, I mean what can you expect from a silent black and white?  Well the actors in The Artist did a great job at showing you their emotions with only their facial expressions and their actions not to mention the sets and costumes warrant nominations.  J. Edgar and The Iron Lady are both great history lessons along with well written story lines that keep you interested.  J. Edgar does a better job at this than The Iron Lady, but Meryl Streep does such an amazing acting job you have to give her credit for the work she does with a rather slow story line.
J. Edgar which was a great film with amazing acting did not get a single nomination. Shocking! It had an excellent historical story line with great acting by all.  J. Dench brings her A game and a biting tongue to her role.  Leo nails his part as a hard working/ driven yet awkward character.

The Descendants while being incredibly sad it was a great movie!  Every actor young and old did a great job at their characters which I give some credit to the Director whom is up for nominee and I think deserves to win.  Alex Payne picked some amazing locations as well as actors for their roles.
Sid played by Nick Krause will have you busting up out loud.

My Week With Marilyn was good but I can't say great.  I believe that the co-star Eddie Redmayne deserved a nomination for his role which was almost bigger than Michelle's, who did a fabulous job at portraying Marilyn.  I didn't feel that Kenneth Branagh did anything for his role, but perhaps this is how Sir Laurence Olivier really behaved.

My vote goes to The Descendants.
